History

First mentioning of present city Belyaevka dated in XVIII century. Though, then it was Gorlovkovka village. Then the village was renamed to present name, in honor of koshevy ataman Sidor Beliy, who became famous during Ochakov siege.

Historically important date for this settlement is considered 1872, when the decision of building the Dniester water-flow, which was necessary to provide Odessa with water constantly was made. In current borders marked on maps the Belyaevsky district was formed in 1923.

Geography

Today district is one of the biggest (4,5% of region territory). It directly adjoins to the region center borders from one side and to the Republic of Moldova from the other. Also, the district's territory borders with Razdelnyansky, Ovidiopolsky, Ivanivsky, Kominternovsky disticts.

Besides Dniester, Baraboy river flows through the Belyaevsky district territory. Hadzibey and Dnistrovsky estuaries are important to be distinguished from water resources of the district.

Transport

Crossing of big number of automotive roads and railways and also direct adjunction to Odessa – provided district fast economical and social development.

Two interstae roads are going through the district's territory: Odessa-Kiev-Moscow and Odessa-Reni-Bukharest. On the “Odessa-Kiev” train route lay two large train stations – Vigoda and Dachnoye.

Population

Belyaevsky district population number is approximately 110 thd. people.  As well as in many other regions of Odessa region, ethnic variety of the population is very significant.

In particular, representatives of 70 nationalities are present on the district's territory. Besides usual Ukrainians, Russians and Moldavians, here traditions of Bulgarian, Armenian and other cultures can be recognized.

Tourism

Presence of reservoirs and reserved territories, developed transport infrastructure and proximity to Region center ensured district's beautiful opportunities for development of different types of tourism.

In Belyaevka a tourist informational center functions with great success, providing detailed information about tourist abilities of the district.
