First mentioning of present city Belyaevka dated in XVIII century. Though, then it was Gorlovkovka village. Then the village was renamed to present name, in honor of koshevy ataman Sidor Beliy, who became famous during Ochakov siege.
Historically important date for this settlement is considered 1872, when the decision of building the Dniester water-flow, which was necessary to provide Odessa with water constantly was made. In current borders marked on maps the Belyaevsky district was formed in 1923.
Today district is one of the biggest (4,5% of region territory). It directly adjoins to the region center borders from one side and to the Republic of Moldova from the other. Also, the district's territory borders with Razdelnyansky, Ovidiopolsky, Ivanivsky, Kominternovsky disticts.
Besides Dniester, Baraboy river flows through the Belyaevsky district territory. Hadzibey and Dnistrovsky estuaries are important to be distinguished from water resources of the district.
